Edmund
Hatch Bennett was born in Manchester on this day in 1824. His life’s
journey would take him to Massachusetts, where he become the first
mayor of Taunton, serving multiple terms.
Bennett
became best known for his legal work. He became a judge, often lecturing
about law at Harvard University. Bennett also wrote extensively,
gaining a respected reputation for his legal insight and knowledge.
Independently
or in collaboration with others, he wrote or edited more than 100
legal works during his lifetime. Taunton, Massachusetts is now home
to the Edmund Hatch Bennett school, named in his honor.
