The
Waterbury Backcountry Rescue Team was formally activated on this
day in 2002. This specialized team evolved from a 2001 accident
in which a backcountry skiier on Camel’s Hump collided with
a tree.
Stowe’s
Hazardous Terrain Team was contacted amidst the confusion, and then
the call was cancelled by a Green Mountain Club ranger. Precious
time was lost. The skiier sustained serious head injuries and was
finally taken to North Duxbury where the Waterbury Ambulance Service
picked him up.
Confusion
impeding rescue operations during life-threatening situations led
to new backcountry rescue protocols.

thank the WBRT for allowing us to come film one of their meetings
and supplies.
