On
April 20, 1895, George H. Elmore, a theater director, was presenting
the last day of performances in Morrisville. It was a two-day show
called Living Whist Pictures, based on the popular card game of
the era.
Whist
was extremely popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, and continues
to be played today in Britain. The game required a standard 52 card
deck.
This
show brought whist to life by having men and women dress up with
hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds on their costumes. Participants
in the living whist production brought light entertainment to an
eager Morrisville audience.
