More
people were beginning to think of Vermont as a good place to ski
on this day in 1956. It was on this day that Smuggler's Notch
Ski-Ways, Inc. was incorporated, better known today as Smuggler's
Notch or simply, Smuggs.
Dr.
Roger Mann, the Cambridge village physician, oversaw much of the
early development. Two T-100 Pomalifts, early cable, stick and disk
format European style lifts, were installed on Sterling Mountain
and five trails were cut.
In
those early days, the ski area was only open on weekends. Years
of hard work and growth have made Smuggler's Notch what it
is today.
