A
crowd gathered in Pittsford on this day in 1911. They were sitting
on Henry Lothrop’s land, near St. Alphonsus Cemetery, watching
the cornerstone being placed for a new high school.
Henry
Lothrop donated the land on Route 7, and the school was named Lothrop
High School in his honor. The new school was a three-story brick
building, lined with windows. Thirteen years later, Pittsford Town
Hall would be built just in front of the school.
As
school enrollment grew, an addition was made to the building in
1960. The Lothrop campus is now an Elementary school, and includes
the old town hall as part of the school.
