On
this day in 1934, the Florence Gray Estey forest was dedicated in
Addison. The DAR wanted to memorialize Florence Gray Estey, who
had passed away the year before.
Estey
was a well-known for her contributions to society. She lived in
Brattleboro and had been a charter member of the Brattleboro DAR
chapter, providing financial support and expertise.
She
had been instrumental in building the Constitution and Continental
Halls in Washington, D.C. and donated to numerous Brattleboro organizations
and charities. Estey was also president of the American Red Cross
Brattleboro branch during World War One.
