| On August 28, 1906, Mrs. Magoon was
traveling by horse and buggy down Luce Hill in Stowe. She and her
two children were on their way home from visiting her sister.
Luce Hill Road is steep and winding. So much so, in fact, that
the children were nervous and decided to get out and walk.
The weight of the buggy and Mrs. Magoon was too much for the horses.
The buggy picked up speed while the horses tried to get out of the
way. An unsuspecting man coming up the hill narrowly escaped being
hit.
The buggy overturned, the horses ran off, leaving Mrs. Magoon unconscious
with critical, but not fatal, injuries.

Luce
Hill Road has many steep slopes and sharp turns.
Poor Mrs. Magoon found that out the hard way...
when gravity took over and the horses took off!
