| The Vermont Wheel Club was holding
its annual meeting on this day in 1895.
The Vermont Wheel Club was a club of bicyclists based in Brattleboro.
The club had just recently moved into new quarters in the Grange
Block to accomodate a growing membership, now 150 strong.
The Vermont Wheel Club held biking events, but also sponsored theater
and dance events, as well as special dinners.
They were one of the most active social organizations in the state.
This helped the club survive the introduction of the automobile.
In 1924, after 40 years, The Vermont Wheel Club disbanded.
