Abraham Wood passed away on this day in 1869. Born in Barre, he settled in Marshfield, buying land on Hollister Hill. Abraham’s son, Theodore farmed the land, but the property’s legacy became the Theodore Wood House.

Thedore’s son, Chester designed and constructed the home, a grand building for a successful farmer and his large family. As agriculture became more competitive, the farm failed, the family left, and the Theodore Wood House fell into disrepair.

In 1979, new owners applied the first coat of paint to the structure in more than a half century. What locals had called the haunted house took on a whole new life.
