December 27, 1913 could have been disastrous for H. T. Lindsay,
had it not been for a little luck.
He
was coming down Blue Mountain in South Ryegate with a load of granite.
As he guided his four horses, Lindsay noticed that the pole hitch
attaching the wagon to the team was broken. He pulled the horses
and load to the side of the road, and started walking back for help.
Lindsay
had gone but a short distance when something spooked the horses
and off they went, down the road. In the panic, two horses were
thrown and all four were tangled, but miraculously there were no
serious injuries to Lindsay’s team.
