1932

Glaciers, ice climbing and clouds can only mean one thing...Vermont has distinctive lakes.

Governor Stanley Wilson was talking about Vermont’s scenic beauty via a radio broadcast from Bennington on this day in 1932. He told about Brookfield’s floating bridge and Fairlee’s Lake Morey.

Wilson talked about Westmore’s Lake Willoughby. Willoughby at 312 feet deep, boasts sparkling clear, cold water and fabulous fishing. Carved by glaciers, the distinctive cliffs of Mt. Pisgah bordering the lake are a landmark, and provide ice climbers a winter challenge.

Governor Wilson also discussed Vermont’s Lake of the Clouds, which, situated at approximately 4,000 feet on Mt. Mansfield, is Vermont’s highest lake.
