James Young was injured on this day in 1932. Young was from Newport, and was the junior champion ski jumper of Vermont. Young was training in Newport when he fell during a test jump.

Newport had become a training ground for some of Vermont and New England’s best ski jumpers. Competitors such as Young would travel throughout New England to various meets, and felt that practicing in the same location allowed for better and more consistent training.

This day, however, wasn’t a good one for James Young. He had a compound fracture in one leg and suffered cuts on his back and face from his skis.
