The
fire alarm rang in Brattleboro on this day in 1929. The Princess
Hotel and Theatre was on fire. Firemen responded, but the wood-framed,
four-story building would be severely damaged, and many firemen
were injured helping people out of the building.
Charles
Morgan managed the property and was devastated to learn that the
Princess Hotel had sustained an estimated $60,000 in damage. Morgan
had only $6,000 worth of insurance. The theater lost an estimated
$10,000 worth of equipment, while Morgan had only $4,000 worth of
insurance.
The
Princess managed to get rebuilt, but was destroyed by fire in 1937.
