Timothy Follett was born in Bennington on this day in 1793. His
life path would lead him to law, and he would become a successful
lawyer and a merchant in Burlington.
Follett
loved and was involved with steamboat operation, so it comes as
little surprise that railroads caught his attention, as well. Follett
oversaw the development of the Rutland Railroad Corporation and
spurred on construction.
Follett
was a major benefactor in the financial development of the company.
Nearly as important was Follett’s optimism and confidence
regarding the railroad’s business performance, and its potential
for the future.
