A group of women got together as the Ladies’ Aid Society in
West Dover on this day in 1900. This group of five women met at
the home of Mrs. Corse with the purpose of establishing a society
that would try to help the community.
Over
the course of the next year, their numbers grew to more than fifteen.
The ladies met each month to work on a project, and every month
they paid dues of five cents each, always donated toward a good
cause.
The
Ladies’ Aid Society worked on quilts for the community, and
was known for its church suppers and summer picnics, which raised
money for the minister and the church.
