A church in Montpelier was being consecrated on this day in 1843.
A
parish had organized as Christ Episcopal Church in Montpelier a
year earlier, but had no building in which to hold services. They
constructed a building at 128 State Street, and regular church services
began on this day.
When
the congregation outgrew the original building, they built a stone
church closer to Main Street, which still stands today.
128
State Street was first sold and converted to an inn, and then the
building was demolished to make way for the Edward Dewey House,
which houses Vermont state offices to this day.
