January 21, 1914

One of the oldest buildings in town is built by an early citizen.
We'll go to Essex Junction for that story.

Essex Junction trustees were voting on a property located in the village of Essex Junction on this day in 1914. It had been purchased by the village in 1911 from Mr. Henry Root.

It was on this day that trustees decided to name the property Lincoln Hall Square, commonly known today as Lincoln Hall. Lincoln Hall has served as retail space, police headquarters, fire department, and was the first aid center during World War II.

Many people don't realize that Lincoln Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Essex Junction. It was finished in 1820 by Abram Stevens, who was not only a "Green Mountain Boy" but also an early citizen of Essex Junction.
