Vermonters
were finding out how their farms ranked in relation to other New
England states on this day in 1923.
The
American Farm Bureau Federation had released statistical information
that revealed Vermont was home to 29,075 farms, and compared to
other New England states, Vermont farms had more acreage. A typical
Vermont farm was 145.7 acres.
Vermont
also had the largest number of farms worth more than $20,000, but
Vermont’s average value per acre was the lowest in New England.
Vermont’s 29,075 farms were valued at nearly $223,000,000.
