The
Strong Mansion in Addison became the official property of the Daughters
of the Republic on this day in 1934.
The
mansion has stood since 1796. It was built by John Strong with bricks
fired nearby, some of which burned slightly while baking. The majestic
building overlooks Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks, with the
green mountains to the east.
The
inside has been renovated and restored by various chapters of the
D.A.R. The mansion is a living museum of early life in Addison County,
and a tremendous example of early American architecture. The Strong
Mansion is open to the public during the summer.
