1957

Paying homage to the town’s first church, 150 years later. We’ll go to Morristown for that story.

On July 14, 1957, a group of people gathered in Morristown. 1957 marked the 150th anniversary of Morristown’s First Congregational Church.

Members and clergy thought it would be appropriate to pay homage to Morristown’s first church as part of their sesquicentennial celebration. Fifty years ago, they erected a commemorative sign near the site of the town’s first church.

Women in their Sunday best, including broad-rimmed hats and white gloves, stood looking on. Also present were Reverends Frank Stockwell and Walter Cooley, dressed in suits and ties, proudly approving the new sign.
