1930

Like father, like son...a famous young pilot meets a tragic fate. We’ll go to Bennington for that story.

On July 16, 1930, a plane with two on board crashed in Bennington. Pilot Frank Goldsborough was a 19 year old aviation celebrity and his passsenger was Don Mockler.

Goldsborough was the son of a famous aviator who had died in a plane crash over the Atlantic ocean. Like his father, the young Goldsborough loved flying, and held the junior record for speed, flying across the United States in 34 hours and three minutes.

With Goldsborough unconscious, Mockler went for help. It took 18 hours for help to arrive, and Goldsborough died at Bennington’s Putnam Memorial Hospital.
