A
walking tour was dedicated in Newport on this day in 2002. It was,
quite literally, an impressive step toward publicizing the area’s
vast history.
The
historic walking tour features ten historic markers along the waterfront
of Lake Memphremagog and Newport’s Main Street. The markers
include stories and historic images depicting life in Newport. Some
of the information dates back to the Abenakis.
The
information on the markers is written in both English and French.
This walking tour was funded by Vermont, the Alnobak Heritage Preservation
Center, and the Memphremagog Historical Society of Newport.
