Several towns want to form a new county in Vermont.
The story of Alba County.

Residents of Windsor and Windham counties were signing a petition on this day in 1806. They wanted the General Assembly, which would meet in Middlebury in October, to consider creating a new county named Alba.

Windsor County residents of Weathersfield, Springfield, Chester, Baltimore, Cavendish, Ludlow, Andover and Weston, as well as Windham County residents of Rockingham, Grafton, Windham, and Londonderry, wanted to form their own county.

Their request was designed to reduce the travel necessary for county court and other services, which petitioners felt was inconvenient and expensive.
