1950

It’s the case of the oldest, unsolved, suspicious death in Vermont, and the files are missing.

Pauline Gill Molony was found dead behind the Waterbury Inn on this day in 1950. Molony was believed to have been murdered. Her death remains the oldest, unsolved, suspicious death in Vermont, and the case is still open more than half a century later.

Molony and her husband owned and operated the inn. Among the initial suspests was Malony’s husband, who had waited nearly twelve hours before calling the police.

The investigation also revealed some evidence suggesting Molony’s death might have been accidental. Both local and state police have lost their files pertaining to Molony’s mysterious death.
