On
this day in 1912, The Bennington Evening Banner released a review
of information about fires in Orleans county for 1911.
Morgan
was the only town in all of Orleans county not to have suffered
from a single blaze during 1911, making it the only town without
losses due to fire. Holland also fared quite well, suffering from
only one fire, amounting to a loss of $288 worth of property.
Fire,
especially in cold months when firefighting is most difficult, can
ravage a town. Irasburg got hit particularly hard in 1911, suffering
nine fires and losing $22,549 worth of property.
