Old CCC barracks take on new life and are named for famous composers.
The hills are alive...

Vermont agreed to lease old CCC barracks to the Trapps on this day in 1944. When Baron Georg von Trapp bought property on Luce Hill in Stowe, the nearby CCC barracks were empty. They had been built during the '30s to house men working on the Little River Dam project.

The Trapp family established the Trapp Music Camp, naming each CCC dorm for a famous conductor, including Schubert, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and others.

Mornings began with chapel, breakfast and choir. Afternoons could be spent learning recorder or violin, or for hiking and swimming. Folk dancing lessons finished each day.
