On
May 29, 1833, James Renwick Wilson Sloane was born in Topsham. He
was a native Vermonter destined to become a distinguished religious
educator.
Sloane
graduated from Jefferson College in Pennsylvania before attending
the Reformed Presbyterian Seminary in Ohio. Soon after graduation,
Sloane became a pastor in Ohio and then in New York City. He acted
as President for Ohio's Richmond College and then for Geneva
College.
Sloane
published many of his sermons and addresses and compiled a book
about his life's work which was edited by his son and published
two years after his death.
