1959

As a small town grows, the water system is stretched
to the limit. Going with the flow in Bakersfield.

On October 2, 1959, Bakersfield was holding a special district meeting.

It seems that demands on Bakersfield’s water supply had been growing faster than the supply could handle. New construction and renovations required plumbing and some folks were installing backyard swimming pools. Consumption was up.

There were concerns about adequate water for the fire department in the event of an emergency.

At this meeting, Albert Croft made a motion to construct a different and larger water and fire protection system. The following year, a 30,000 gallon standpipe reservoir was completed.

a dialogue to improve their water supply on this day.
