Doris Morning Dove Minckler was born
on this day. Her mother, who was of Abenaki descent, died while
Doris was very young.
Her grandmother Ida became her female role model. Doris'
family moved to Swanton when she was four and Ida began teaching
Doris the healing ways of the Abenaki, passed down through generations
of Abenaki women.
Doris' abilities to listen, advise and soothe soon became
legendary as she continued to practice the traditions her grandmother
had taught her.
Her husband remarked of the constant flow of people in response
to Doris' undying devotion to helping others.
